I’ll deflate the fear first – I’m a Boy Mom! And – I’m a Girl Mom!
Isn’t perspective interesting! The core beliefs you have about yourself and your parenting shape the way you perceive the world. I bet when you read the title you had an all kinds of thoughts flood your mind. Maybe something like: “What kind of mom does (insert critical options here)” or maybe you thought “Are you a mom that likes to ( Insert overwhelming and unrealistic parenting expectations here)” or maybe you were simply intrigued by the question waiting for it unfold before your mind.
I just happened to come from both of those overthinking perspectives – always comparing myself to other mothers, some in my life, some on social media or T.V. shows … like “Bluey” haha how ridiculous is that. It’s clearly entertainment for children and I’m all sad that I’m not a “fun mom” like Chili Heeler! Girl – the thoughts are relentless, just know you are not alone and they are overcome-able!
Just this month, I’ve allowed my will to be submitted to the omnipotent will of the Lord and what a change. Now this was not easy by any means – it was intentional, it was- at times- painful, and most importantly it was daily. The more I let the Lord purify my perspective of my life and my responsibilities, the pressure started lightening up. I could breathe. I could laugh. I was different – not always in a hurry. No longer drowning under the laundry list of house hold to dos. I made space for my kids to be kids.
It was hard for me to see the messes my babies made as anything other than a chore added to my list. Everything added to my frustration, the repeated narrative was “this is the path I chose” which eluded to there being another life that is jusssst in reach. You know the one… when you’re rich, have the dream house, Prince Charming, a chef, and a maid.
Only after we accept the Life that the Lord is building for us, can we actually begin to perfect it. And only after we sell out to our calling will we be able to see the promises be revealed.
I started to think back on all the requests I had growing up of what I wanted my life to be like when I was an adult. When I look at the bones of my life I see that I have the structure of everything I always dreamt of – I just need to continue to cultivate it to its maturity. My friend, do you have everything you truly want in life? If not, try taking the first step towards God’s Perfect Will. You won’t know all the steps but when you seek to follow He will always give you the first step.
