School Journey with my kids
How did you feel when your first born started school? I definitely stayed on campus a while… until they had lunch… and recess. Hahaha It might have been a little over kill, but my husband and I wanted to make sure our baby was ok before we left – and by that I mean – we wanted to make sure we were ok with the decision we made to leave our baby there before we left. Haha I had a hard time letting go for sure.
Not sure if I mentioned this earlier, but for context sake the Lord graced me the ability to stay home with my babies. With that being said I was at the school “helping” all the time, every class party – I was there, every time I could be on campus monitoring I mean helping I was there! I liked the staff there but I had my reservations. My baby didn’t have a lot of representation at the school and mentioned countless times that the kids were not friendly so my alerts were up. However, I stayed true to my commitment and sought the Lord for an answer.
Even though I had a hard time letting go, I imagined all the things I could accomplish in those 3 hours of having my baby in school. After a couple months of prayer between my husband and myself. I knew what my assignment was, the Lord commissioned me to homeschool my babies and to disciple them myself. Thus the charter school “homeschool” journey was birthed and my baby was immediately withdrawn from the class and we applied to the two local charter schools in my area.
In case you’re considering the same thing I’ll give you some behind the scenes on my journey. Why charter school instead of starting your own homeschool? As a homeschooling institution, you will be audited randomly to provide proof of your child’s work to ensure they are meeting the curriculum requirements for your state. Whereas working with a charter school, they would be the ones to be audited instead of you. Of course you would need to meet with the homeschool “teacher” periodically to give them samples of the work your child is completing at home but this is minor compared to keeping track of everything yourself. A charter school also provides funding for your child since they are public there isn’t much for you to come out of pocket for. A charter school provides a $2k-3k budget for supplies, extracurricular activities, field trips and curriculums for your child. I couldn’t think of a better way to start homeschooling – I mean I get someone to walk me through this and pay for it! God is good!
The process to register for both charter schools were similar but also very different. One was waitlisted on the front end and the other one was waitlisted on the back end. The front end waitlist – didn’t allow me to fill out an application until I was accepted into the program. The other Charter school allowed me to fill out the application but alerted me that I was not officially enrolled until I was assigned a “teacher” and signed the contract acknowledging our parent teacher agreement.
Do not – I repeat DO NOT allow the waitlist to fool you. There is still space for you even if you end up on the waitlist. I was waitlisted by both programs and I was accepted by both as well! So I got to interview them and chose which one I thought was the better fit for me and my baby. More details to come!
